There are some data that show that vitamin Eâespecially mixed tocopherolsâdecreases the risk of prostate cancer. (But if youâre taking a statinâand we know weâre repeating, but it bears repeatingâyou shouldnât take more than 100 IU of mixed tocopherols or vitamin E because it inhibits the function of that statin by 40 percent.) For women, 800 IU of vitamin E has been shown to decrease the dryness of the vaginal wall to help with libido and arousal. Folate (800 micrograms a day) and the B vitamins in RDA amountsâas well as 3 daily grams of omega-3 fatty acids (in supplements, in DHA-fortified foods or pills, in twelve walnuts a day, or in thirteen ounces of nonfried fatty fish a week) and 15 milligrams of zincâhave been shown to help increase fertility as well by improving sperm mobility and by improving the hospitality of the uterus toward the implantation of the egg. Finally, good ole vitamin C also will increase sperm motility, which might prove useful, depending on whether you want more kids in your life.
